Alabama Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Act (ASORCNA)

Major Restrictions

• The 2,000-Foot Rule: Adult sex offenders generally cannot live or work within 2,000 feet of a school, childcare facility, or youth camp.⁵
• Living with Minors: Offenders are generally prohibited from residing with any minor, though there are narrow exceptions for their own children/grandchildren if the offender's victim was not a family member or a child under 12.
• Travel Notification: Registered offenders must notify local law enforcement if they intend to be away from their residence for more than three days ($\S 15-20A-15$).
• Identification: Offenders must carry a valid Alabama driver’s license or ID card that identifies them as a sex offender (⁶$\S 15-20A-18$).
