Chaperone Training & Support Services
Empowering Support Networks for Community Safety
A vital component of successful reintegration and court compliance is the presence of a well-trained, responsible support system. Forensic Services of Alabama provides comprehensive Chaperone Training for family members, friends, and community sponsors who have committed to supervising individuals in our Specialized Offense Treatment Services (SOTS) or Sex Offender Treatment Programs (SOTP).
Our training ensures that chaperones are not just observers, but active partners in the "Containment Model," helping to reduce risk and promote long-term accountability.
What is a Trained Chaperone?
A chaperone is a vetted individual who provides oversight for an offender during community outings, family events, or daily activities as required by the court or treatment plan. Being a chaperone is a significant responsibility that requires a clear understanding of boundaries, warning signs, and reporting obligations.
Our Training Curriculum Includes:
The Role of the Chaperone: Understanding your legal and ethical duties within the safety plan.
Recognizing Grooming & "Grooming-Back": Identifying subtle behavioral shifts or manipulation tactics.
Understanding the Offense Cycle: Learning the specific triggers and "red flags" unique to the individual you are supervising.
Boundary Maintenance: How to say "no" and enforce rules without compromising the therapeutic relationship.
Reporting Protocols: Clear instructions on when and how to contact the therapist or Probation Officer (USPO) if a violation occurs.
Why Professional Training is Required
Court-mandated supervision is only effective if the chaperone is fully equipped to handle the complexities of sexual offense behaviors. Our training, led by Certified Sex Offender Treatment Providers (CSOTP), bridges the gap between family support and clinical oversight.
Benefits of Our Program:
Court Credibility: Completion of our training provides the United States Probation Office (USPO) and local courts with confidence in the safety plan.
Reduced Liability: We teach you how to protect yourself and others by maintaining strict adherence to the law.
Support for the Chaperone: We recognize that this role can be stressful. Our program provides ongoing support to help you navigate your responsibilities.
