Family Reunification
Family Reunification Services In situations involving sexually abusive or compulsive behaviors, the safety and well-being of children is the paramount concern.
Therefore, an assessment may be required by an attorney, court, or supervision authority before an individual can be considered for reunification with a home where minors reside. These assessments are a critical component of the decision-making process, providing valuable information to legal and supervisory bodies. Specialized Child Risk Assessments Specialized assessments have been developed to specifically and comprehensively evaluate the potential risk to children in these complex circumstances. These assessments go beyond general evaluations, focusing on the specific dynamics and risk factors present in cases involving sexual offenses.
The purpose of these assessments is to:
- Identify and prioritize targets of treatment to address the individual's harmful behaviors.
- Determine the level of risk for re-offending, utilizing evidence-based assessment tools and clinical judgment.
- Outline clear and specific expectations for conditions of supervision to ensure the safety of children upon reunification.
Sex Offender Treatment Requirement Prior to engaging in the Family Reunification Process, participation in and, in some cases, successful completion of Sex Offender Treatment (SOT) is often a mandatory requirement. This requirement underscores the importance of addressing the underlying causes of the sexually harmful behavior to minimize risk. Completion of SOT can be facilitated through Forensic Services of Alabama or another court-approved provider. However, it is essential to provide verifiable documentation of SOT completion to the relevant authorities.
